I am a native Texan who has lived and practiced criminal law principally throughout Texas. I have been fortunate and learned the practice of law and the application of law from some of the best the great state of Texas has seen. I moved from the Texas pan-handle to Houston over 12 years ago, and I was finally able to settle into a life that now includes a beautiful and driven wife, three kids, and a dog. Houston is home to my family, and I have come to deeply care about the Houston community.
I grew up in Burleson, Texas, and attended Nolan Catholic High School in Fort Worth. After I graduated with honors, I attended St. Mary's University in San Antonio where I chased a baseball dream and received a degree in finance, risk-management, and business (with a lot of accounting added on). I then headed to the Texas pan-handle where I received my law degree from the Texas Tech School of Law. I began working and eventually practicing at a general practice law firm in Lubbock, Texas where I proudly represented citizens of all types with all manners of problems ranging from the injured, to business disputes, to family issues, to estate planning, and of course criminal law. My journey led me to Houston, and I have since made this place my home. I currently run a practice that centers on finding justice for the individual.
I, like you, share a belief that our government should work for the people, and the judiciary should represent the citizens of Harris County. The law should always apply equally regardless of color, creed, national origin, religion, or ethnicity. I have been called to do my best to ensure that the law does just that...apply fairly and equally to each and every citizen.
The most common question I have received after announcing my candidacy for the 228th is "why are you running?" The answer is simple. I was literally and figuratively called to run. In short, I was recruited by a trusted colleague to enter the race as a level-headed and fair-minded criminal practitioner who can apply the law and act with unquestionable impartiality. I see that our justice system often overlooks and misdiagnoses mental health and addiction cases--both of which are of particular concern to me. Additionally, I have practiced law throughout the State of Texas, and I have been able to see how the justice system functions throughout the vast regions of our state. Simply put, the criminal justice system in Harris County is dysfunctional and broken--the system needs to be fixed from the top down--starting with the judiciary. The system no longer serves the people of Harris County. Being called into public service is a great honor that carries great responsibility. As a staunch believer in the justice system and the principles upon which it stands, the punishment should always be proportionate to the crime, and the people should always be kept safe. I know that my approach to the bench is firmly rooted in the principals of the law and the basic notions of humanity. I am called into public service just for that very reason...to serve the public.
I have been part of this community representing and working for the people of Harris County for over 12 years, working tirelessly to make it a better place. As a Harris County judicial candidate I will bring much needed perspective to the District Courts and the administration of justice.
